More Details

The Newfoundland and Labrador Palliative Care Association (NLPCA) formed in 1993 as a non-profit volunteer board based charitable organization, consisting of an elected Board of Regional Representatives along with individual and honorary membership.

The NLPCA provincial membership now shares joint membership with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) to advocate for and envision equal access to palliative care programs and services for all patients and families living with or dying from a life threatening illness, and bereavement support to help cope with loss and grief regardless of their location.

The NLPCA strives to work on an advocacy, leadership, communication and educational level around palliative care issues across Newfoundland and Labrador for holistic palliative and end of life care (i.e. physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and practical support) delivered by skilled interprofessional teams, including volunteers, to enhance the person’s quality of life and care.

The NLPCA also works to be a Newfoundland and Labrador representative for those members involved in service, research and education in palliative care by educating, training and mentoring about palliative care, validating national norms, principles and accreditation standards etc. and promoting palliative care in collaboration with CHPCA, regional health authorities, governments and other organizations.
